Managing and coaching at Flixton Juniors

Are you interested in volunteering at Flixton Juniors as a team manager/coach/secretary? 
Becoming a manager or coach at our football club, watching your team learn, develop individually and as a team, and grow a love  for the beautiful game can be very rewarding.

Although full training will be given, there are many qualities that make a great coach:

*FOOTBALLING KNOWLEDGE: skills, player positions, rules, having basic knowledge of these will be hugely beneficial 
. 
* BEING ORGANISED: arranging matches and training, collecting subs and paying fees and having good timekeeping skills

*HAVING THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT: we're being serious, so many of our parents when talking of our coaches all say this. You will be coaching players of different abilities, maturity and attention spans, or have arrived at training giddy and excitable. Your training sessions and matches are not always going to go to plan, and being able to adapt to that and handle it calmly is a must.

*BEING Friendly AND APPROACHABLE: but also being in charge, it's a fine line between having that banter with your players, but them also listening to you and knowing you're in charge.

*KEEPING COOL: not everything is going to go your way, or your players may not get treated as they should on the pitch. Keeping your head and remaining calm and cool is essential. Your players will act how you coach, and losing your head is never the correct response.

*BEING WILLING to develop EVERY player over winning at all costs. We are a community club, we firmly believe football should be available to every child who wants to play. Most of of our teams are mixed ability. Players develop at different rates, but they will not develop if not given a chance.

All our Club officials, managers and coaches must hold the following FA qualifications:
*FA issued full enhanced DBS
*FA Safeguarding Children Qualification 
*FA First Aid Qualification
*FA Introduction to Coaching Football
*Agree to and follow the FA Code of Conduct for Club Officials, Managers and Coaches

Don't worry if you don't hold these already. Once you have registered with the club, our club welfare officers will help you get started on completing the qualifications, and the club will pay for your courses.

Young Players Code of Conduct

When playing football, I will:

• Always do my best, even if we are losing or the other team is stronger 	
 • Play fairly — I won’t cheat, complain or waste time
 • Never be rude to my team-mates, the other team, the referee, spectators, my team manager or coaches
 • Do what the referee tells me
 • Shake hands with the other team and referee at the end of the game
 • Listen to my team manager and respect what he says
Talk to someone I trust, for example my parents or the Club Welfare Officer, if I’m unhappy about anything at the club
I understand that breaches of the code may result in action being taken by my County FA and / or the FA.
Parents, Carers & Spectators Code of Conduct

I will:

• Inform team managers of any special medical needs or injuries that a player may have.
 • Don’t leave children unsupervised at matches or training without the prior agreement of the Manager.
 • Inform team managers if a player will be unavailable for matches or training as soon as possible
 • Be on time for training and matches
 • Ensure children are appropriately equipped for training and matches (including shin pads, suitable footwear, suitable warm clothing and a drink)
 • Remain outside the field of play and behind the designated spectator area
 • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour
 • Always respect the decisions of the match officials
 • Set a good example and applaud effort and good play for both teams
 • Please always ensure that your children DO NOT climb on the storage containers and keep out of the wooded area at Wellacre
 • Not take any dogs onto the premises at Wellacre, Acre Hall or Egerton

When working with players, I will:
 • Remember that children play for FUN
 • Let the manager / coaches do their job and not confuse players by telling them what to do
 • Encourage the players to respect the opposition and match officials
 • Never criticise a player for making a mistake —mistakes are part of learning
I understand that breaches of the code may result in action being taken by my County FA and / or the FA.
Adult Player Code of Conduct

on and off the field of play, I will:

• Adhere to the Laws of the Game
 • Display and promote high standards of behaviour
 • Promote fair play and behave within the spirit of the Laws of the Game
 • Always respect the decisions of the match officials
 • Never engage in public criticism of the match officials
 • Never engage in offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour
 • Avoid bullying, intimidation and poor behaviour
 • Speak to my team-mates, the opposition and my coach/ manager with respect
 • Ask my team captain to talk to the referee if I have a problem relating to the match
Remember we all make mistakes
Shake hands with the opposing team and the match officials at the end of every match

Team Managers, Coaches and Club Officials Code of Conduct:
We all near a responsibility to set a good example and help provide a positive environment in which children can learn and enjoy the game. Play your part and observe the FA code of conduct at all times:

On and off the pitch I will:
 • Use my position to set a positive example for the young people I am responsible for
 • Show my respect to all others involved in the game, including match officials, all players, opposition , managers an coaches, officials and spectators.
 • Adhere to the laws and spirit of the game
 • Promote fair play and high standards of behaviour
 • Respect the match official’s decision
 • Never enter the field of ply without the referee’s permission 
 • Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour
 • Be gracious in victory and defeat
When working with players I will:
 • Place the well-being, enjoyment and safety of my players above all, including winning
 • Never engage in or tolerate any form of bullying
 • Encourage each player to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance
 • Ensure all activities I organise are appropriate for the players age, ability level and maturity
 • Co-operate fully with others (officials, doctors, physiotherapists, welfare officers) for each player’s best interests

I understand if I do not follow any of the above, some or all of the following actions may be taken by the club or the FA:
I may be required to:
 • Meet with the club, league or county welfare officer
 • Suspended by the club from attending matches
 • Suspended or fined by the County FA
 • Be required to leave the club
 • My FA coaching license may be withdrawn

Club Policy: Player Exclusion Procedures

A situation may arise when a manager may be thinking about removing a player from their team. This decision must never be taken lightly. Reasons could include:
 • Attendance at training and/or matches
 • Behaviour of the player
 • Behaviour of parents

If a manger is thinking of removing a player, they must first discuss with the Chairman, welfare or discipline team.

A player must not be removed to make room for another player. If a player is removed from a team, there will be a 4 week time period before another player can be registered, unless previously agreed with Club Officials.

Attendance:
Attendance at training and matches are very important, but before removing a player from your team or matchday squad please make sure you are aware of any considerations.
 • Have there been any changes in family circumstances? A separation may mean that child is going between two households with a perhaps further travel distance which could disrupt training.
 • Health; the child may have to attend appointments, or could be a temporary child carer for someone in their household. The child may be neurodiverse, or suffer from anxiety or depression for example which can all affect the child.
 • More extreme reasons such as social services involvement, or being in a domestic violence situation could affect attendance 
In these instances, it would not be in the best interests of the child to remove them from a team, your team may be the only stable thing that they have to take their minds off difficult situations, and could be further distressing the child if removed. Instead work with the family and offer support, and remind them the Club Welfare Team are available to offer support.

If poor attendance is not down to safeguarding/welfare reasons, arrange a meeting with the parents, preferably with another club official present. Explain the reasons you are unhappy and liaise to work out a plan for what needs to change and improve for the player to be able to remain. This needs to be put in a formal letter and signed by the manager and parents. If the plan isn't adhered to, inform the welfare/discipline team/club secretary and they will issue a formal letter of player exclusion to the parents.

Player behaviour: 
In instances of repeated and consistent poor/dangerous behaviour from a player, the manager must;
 • Keep a detailed record of incidents 
 • Discuss behaviour with parent/guardian
 • Inform the welfare/discipline team and arrange a meeting with either the team or those involved individually if that doesn’t work.
 • Agree a plan of improvement with the parent and player, and state if not followed it may result in player exclusion
 • If the behaviour remains poor, please discuss with the discipline team, share the behaviour log, and the Club Officials will issue an exclusion letter.

You must not dismiss a player without going through these steps, unless behaviour is deemed dangerous enough to warrant it. In this case the club must be informed with a detailed report, and the Club Officials will issue a player exclusion.

Parent behaviour:
There may arise a case of repeated poor parent behaviour. For the majority of cases the club would prefer to not to stop the player from playing, as it would be punishing the child for the parents behaviour. However, parents can be excluded from attending match days. If you feel you have an issue with a parent please arrange for a welfare officer to visit your match-day, they can monitor behaviour then arrange a meeting to discuss how behaviour needs to be improved. If that improvement doesn't come the club will issue a letter of parent exclusion from match-days pitch side. Again please keep a log of instances of poor behaviour..

FLIXTON JUNIORS MISCONDUCT POLICY

Fines and Penalty charges:
If a player receives a fine or misconduct charge from the FA, that player or their guardian is responsible for payment of the fine (the fine may be paid from team funds at the managers discretion).

The fine must be paid to Flixton Juniors AFC within 30 days of the fine being issued. Failure to pay the fine may result in a club suspension of the player until the fine is paid.

FA charges are as follows
 • Yellow cards/ Sin Bins: £10
 • Red card fines: start from £35
 • Misconduct Charges: £15-500 depending on seriousness of charges
 • All FA misconduct charges that are due to poor team behaviour will be charged to teams. Any fine not paid within an agreed time period with the club will result in a team suspension until the fine is paid.
 • All fines also incur a £15 administration fee, which is an FA fee.

Misconduct Sanctions:
2 yellows in a season: player and parents are sent a formal warning reminding of club code of conduct, and the next yellow will result in a 1 match ban

3 yellows in a season = 1 match club ban

1 red or FA misconduct charge for violent/threatening conduct = 1 additional club match on top of FA ban

2 reds in a season = 1 additional club ban on top of FA ban plus a formal warning letter regarding code of conduct, warning a third red will result in suspension for remainder of the season

2 reds or FA misconduct charges,  for violent/threatening conduct = immediate suspension of player pending club appeal review. If the board decide there are no grounds for appeal then deregistration of player.

If the appeal is successful then an additional 1 match club ban on top of FA ban

3 red cards in season (for non violent behaviour) suspension for remainder of the season

When a player is due to be deregistered due to multiple gross misconduct charges, there may be an appeal process if requested, the player will remain suspended until the club appeal has taken place.

Flixton Juniors hold the right to pause any player registrations when a gross misconduct charge  occurs until the FA appeal process is complete.

Social Media Relating Policies:

Photography: permission from opposition teams must be gained before taking photographs at matches. As a club we recognise there may be some protected children, and we strive to ensure their safety as much as possible, whether they are in the club or in opposition teams. Please try to only capture your own child as much as possible, and photographs taken at matches that include other children must not be hated in your personal social media page Unless permission is granted.

Sharing Match Scores: we know that parents and spectators are proud of their teams successes, however it is FA policy that in non competitive age groups (U7-U11) that scores are not allowed to be published publicly, and this includes on your personal social media pages. At age groups U12+ the leagues request that scores shared publicly do not reflect above a +6 goal difference.
